BBC signs up Joe Wicks for new podcast series

Joe Wicks is to front a new celebrity wellbeing podcast series for BBC Sounds.

Joe Wicks has signed up to front a new podcast series for the BBC focused on the connection between mental and physical health.

The 33-year-old gained a legion of followers during the coronavirus lockdown as he became "the nation's PE teacher" with free daily workouts streamed live on his YouTube channel.

The BBC and Channel 4 both approached Wicks about turning his workouts into a TV show at the time but he declined, opting to keep them on his own channel, but now he has signed up for The Joe Wicks Podcast on BBC Sounds.

In each episode he will speak with a different celebrity about their wellbeing, with confirmed guests so far including Fearne Cotton, Gordon Ramsay, Louis Theroux and Russell Brand.

"Having my very own podcast where I can speak to the people I have always been interested in has always been a dream of mine," said Wicks.

"I can't wait for listeners to learn about my guest's secrets to personal wellbeing with some laughs and interesting life chats along the way."

The Joe Wicks Podcast debuts next Monday on BBC Sounds.
