Channel 5 cuts Neighbours, Home and Away to two episodes a week

Channel 5 confirms plans to cut Neighbours and Home and Away to two episodes a week from next week.

Channel 5 has announced that it plans to trim down on Aussie soaps Neighbours and Home and Away due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Both shows currently air Monday to Friday on the channel but starting next week will only air on Mondays and Fridays in an effort to keep them on air for as long as possible.

Home and Away has stopped filming down under in the wake of the disease outbreak, although Neighbours is believed to still be filming for the time being.

A Channel 5 spokesperson said: "As a result of Covid-19, we have taken the decision to reduce the number of episodes for Neighbours and Home and Away from five to two per week for both soaps, so that our viewers can continue to enjoy them for as long as possible.

"Both programmes will air on Monday and Fridays, effective from Monday 30th March."

In the UK, filming on all soaps has shut down over the last fortnight due to the government's lockdown measures.
