Kevin Kennedy still hoping for Curly return on Coronation Street

Kevin Kennedy says that he is keen to return to Coronation Street as the soap's milestone 60th birthday approaches.

Kevin Kennedy has again reminded Coronation Street producers that he is available as the soap's landmark 60th anniversary draws nearer.

The 58-year-old played the part of the hapless Curly Watts on the show for 20 years, being written out in 2003 when Kennedy decided to pursue a music career.

The soap turns 60 in December and is expected to welcome back several former stars to mark the occasion, and in a new interview Kennedy has reiterated his desire to reprise the role of Curly.

"It's no secret that I'd love to come back to Coronation Street," he told the Daily Star. "I still have a great relationship with ITV, and if it happens, it happens.

"I think that Curly would have some stories to tell after 16 years away.

"Coronation Street has changed a lot and evolved with the times – it's a different soap from what it was when I was in it, but when I joined it was a different show from 10 years before that.

"It's constantly moving and evolving and it changes for the better, I think, and Corrie deals with brilliant ideas and stories."

Curly was last seen in the 2010 DVD release Coronation Street - A Knight's Tale, in which it was revealed that he had split from his wife Emma after they left the cobbles.
