Graham Norton joins Virgin Radio following Radio 2 exit

Graham Norton signs up to present new weekend shows for Virgin Radio following his exit from BBC Radio 2.

Graham Norton has sealed a deal with Virgin Radio to host a new weekend show following his abrupt departure from BBC Radio 2.

Last week the comedian announced that his Saturday morning show for Radio 2 will be coming to an end next month after 10 years, although the reason for his exit was unclear at the time.

Now Virgin Radio, which has previously poached Chris Evans from Radio 2, has announced that Norton has been signed up to present new shows on Saturdays and Sundays from the new year.

"I am excited and a little surprised to be joining Virgin Radio UK in 2021," said Norton. "I was very content where I was but the opportunity to host shows across the weekend seemed too good to miss out on.

"Plus the energy and enthusiasm at Virgin Radio are infectious and I can't wait to get started! Did I mention the studios are very close to my house?"

Mike Cass, Virgin's director of content, added: "Graham Norton is one of very few truly unique talents in broadcasting. I'm delighted to be welcoming him to the Virgin Radio family in the new year.

"He'll be bringing double the wit, double the banter and double the love across Saturday and Sunday."

Norton's final Radio 2 show will air on Saturday, December 19.
