Sue Perkins takes over as host of Radio 4's iconic Just A Minute show from the late Nicholas Parsons.

Former Great British Bake Off host Sue Perkins has been named as the new host of Radio 4's iconic long-running quiz show Just A Minute.

The 51-year-old, who has appeared on the show as a panellist 58 times, takes over from Nicholas Parsons following his death at the age of 96 last year.

Parsons hosted the show for an incredible 52 years, from its inception in 1967 until 2019, after which a number of guest presenters have been filling in.

"I'm beyond delighted to be asked to host this most legendary of shows," said Perkins.

"Nicholas's shoes are way too big to fill, but I shall bring my own shoes, and work my socks off in them to keep our listeners entertained."

Annie Parsons, widow of Nicholas, added: "As the Minute Waltz fades away, I have no doubt that Nicholas would be delighted to know that Just A Minute will continue long into the future under the superb guardianship of Sue Perkins who fully understands and embraces possibly the most often repeated five words on TV or Radio; 'Without hesitation, repetition or deviation'."

Perkins's first show at the helm will air on Monday, September 6.
