Liam Payne's funeral will take place in the Home Counties today, more than a month on from his tragic death at the age of 31.

Liam Payne's funeral will be held in the UK today, more than one month on from the singer's tragic death.

The former One Direction star died at the age of 31 after falling from the balcony of his Argentina hotel room on October 16, having seemingly fallen unconscious while standing near the edge.

The funeral will be a private ceremony in the Home Counties attended by just family and close friends - including all four of his ex-bandmates, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson.

A source told The Sun: "His family have gone to great lengths to put together the perfect service and give him the send off he deserves.

"Liam may have been a global superstar but to Geoff and Karen he will always be their little boy. It is going to be an incredibly difficult day."

Payne's body was released to his family a fortnight ago upon completion of toxicology tests, the full results of which have yet to be released. A preliminary report last month suggested that he may have had a substance known as "pink cocaine" in his system at the time of his fall.

Argentinian police are continuing their investigation into the incident and have arrested three people to date.
