Veteran actress Miriam Margolyes has hit out at Lily Allen for being "ungenerous" when they appeared together on The Graham Norton Show a decade ago.

The 83-year-old has become renowned for telling outrageous anecdotes on the chat show over the years - and during one appearance in 2014, Allen interjected during one of Margolyes's stories, prompting her to respond: "Don't interrupt, darling."

Talking at the Hay Festival over the weekend to promote her new autobiography Oh Miriam!, she singled out the pop star as one of the few celebrities she has disliked in person.

"I did not like her," she said during a Q&A session. "She was ungenerous and she thought when she was on the programme that it was all about her. She thought, 'Who is this woman? Miriam who?'"

Margolyes added: "She wasn't friendly and I didn't like that and so I showed my dislike, which wasn't very nice of me because she was much younger than me and I should have just taught her how to behave."

Margolyes also criticised Monty Python legend John Cleese, claiming that he has "become a total arsehole", while ornithologist Bill Oddie was deemed "not a nice man".
