Strictly Come Dancing 'axes contestants aged 60 or over'

Strictly Come Dancing producers reportedly decide against featuring celebrities aged 60 and over this year due to coronavirus concerns.

Strictly Come Dancing will reportedly not feature any contestants aged 60 or over in this year's series.

The BBC is aiming to go ahead with the show as usual this autumn despite the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic.

A number of measures are being planned to make Strictly a safe production, including ditching live studio audiences, and now the Daily Star says that older celebrities are also getting the chop.

"The virus is far more dangerous for older people, so insurance companies have said it's not possible to offer cover," a source told the newspaper.

"The risk of them catching the virus and suffering severe health problems would be too big. So it's simply not possible for the show to sign up any celebs from that age group."

Notable older contestants to have taken to the dancefloor in recent years - all of whom would be ineligible this year - include Lesley Joseph, Anneka Rice, Debbie McGee and Johnny Ball.
