Strictly Come Dancing ratings top 10 million

Strictly Come Dancing's second performances show pulls in more than 10 million viewers, a week-on-week audience rise of almost a million.

Last night's edition of Strictly Come Dancing averaged more than 10 million viewers, according to early ratings data.

The programme started five minutes later than planned due to a Downing Street press conference, forcing producers to cut a pre-recorded group dance routine from the start of the show.

Overnight figures show that the episode averaged 10.3 million between 7.15pm and 9pm - up almost a million on last week's first performances show.

Former home secretary Jacqui Smith was bottom of the judges' rankings following the episode, with the result of the viewers' votes still to come in tonight's first elimination episode.

Elsewhere, the Downing Street press conference, which saw Prime Minister Boris Johnson announce a second lockdown for England, was watched by an average of 14.2 million on BBC One between 6.30pm and 7.15pm, with a peak audience of 16.3 million tuning in.
