From: Barrow-in-Furness

Occupation: Project manager

Why did you apply?: "I really like the show. That might be quite a bog-standard answer but I do just really like the show. It's actually the only thing I've ever applied for. I've always been into mysteries, even when I was younger in my Scooby Doo days, I've always liked the guess who's the murderer game so this show is the perfect kind of game for me.

"I think I'll be good at it as well. When you watch it from home, you're only getting half the experience because you know who the Traitors are, but I've always said that I'd love to be on the other side of it and be in the castle and get the full experience of not knowing anything and not trusting anyone."

What did you think of previous series?: "I enjoyed them. I'm always sat there thinking, 'I could do better'. I'm chatting my wife's ear off saying, 'I could do that,' 'they should do this' and I make out like it's easy! So, I'm very vocal, and I'm always backing myself that I could do a better job.

"In terms of a game plan I admired, obviously Harry played a very good game. The whole shield scenario that he had was very well played, and actually, as soon as he got the shield, I thought people might have been more suspicious of it, I think maybe one person mentioned it, but mostly everyone bought it straight away.

"But I suppose the other thing is, with each series that comes out, people will become more switched on. With series one, it was brand new, nobody knew what it was, but now when people say certain things or do certain things, people are more switched on and notice quicker so it's harder to pull things off, but I thought Harry played a good game.

"I also think you need a lot of luck in the game, you need to be in the right place at the right time and build relationships with the right people. The people that seem to get furthest are the ones that build relationships with the right people, people like Meryl from series one or Mollie from series two. Obviously, they were both Faithfuls, but they built relationships with Traitors.

"And even though only one of them won, it's about building relationships to get you further along, but then you can also build relationships with the wrong people, and that could be to your detriment."

What is your gameplan?: "When I've been watching at home, I'm always thinking 'I'll be really strategic', and 'I'll say this and I won't say that and I'll play it this way'. But then, because of the luck element, I just think you're best off going in and being yourself, you can't fake yourself. I'd hate to get sent home and think 'oh maybe I wouldn't have if I had said something at that point'.

"And I just think it'll be easier to play yourself rather than trying to play someone else. I also think I'll try and get on with as many people as I can, but also not be afraid to say my piece, because it's a game, and you've got to ruffle a few feathers in the game! You've got to be able to adapt as well, it's a fight or flight sort of thing."

What would you spend the winnings on?: "I'd want to treat my wife and my mum and dad to a nice big holiday to just show my appreciation of them, for everything they've done for me. And then on top of that, I'd like to put some money into my house, because I didn't realise before I bought a house that it's just money draining! There are so many things I ought to do to the house, but there's just no money there, so I'd like to put some towards that."

Gregg Wallace admits he has "thought about suicide"

Former MasterChef presenter Gregg Wallace has admitted that he "thought about suicide all the time" as the allegations against him mounted last year.

The 60-year-old stepped down from the cookery franchise last November after multiple women accused him of inappropriate behaviour on set over the years - including serious allegations that he groped crew members.

While Wallace has conceded that he sometimes may have made bawdy jokes, he has categorically denied ever knowingly bullying or sexually harassing anyone.

The BBC launched an investigation into Wallace - during which he was diagnosed with autism - and is due to publish the results, which are largely expected to find in his favour, next month.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Wallace claimed that as the stories about him started to break last November, he received no contact from the BBC at all for the first few days.

"Nobody should be left on their own to face something like this," he said. "It's very difficult to explain the pressure unless you've been through it.

"I thought about suicide all the time: 'Is my insurance up to date? Will Anna (Wallace's wife of nine years) get some money? She doesn't deserve this. It would be better if I wasn't here'."

He continued: 'I hadn't slept for four days. The feeling of being under attack, of isolation, of abandonment was overwhelming. Nobody from the BBC contacted me once these stories started breaking – absolutely nobody at all.

"News channels were updating hourly with new allegations. There was a tidal wave of abuse on social media, a dozen reporters outside the gate. You're watching yourself get personally ripped apart, criticised, accused of all sorts of stuff over and over again. You're thinking, 'This isn't true. It isn't true. What's coming next?'

"You don't sleep. Your chest races. Your body feels like it's shutting down because it can't cope with the levels of stress. You feel really dirty and horrible because everybody is saying you're a pervert. Women – big, respected personalities I thought I had a decent relationship with - were attacking me.

"Look, I don't want to make myself sound innocent because, I've come to realise, I must have offended a lot of people over the years when you look at the number of complaints.

"But people on MasterChef are in a very stressed situation and many of them are going to leave disappointed with shattered dreams. I think there has been a lot of misunderstanding of my intention, and so many of the complaints are from so long ago. There's a difference between what they think I said and what was actually said."

The series of MasterChef that Wallace filmed with John Torode before the allegations surfaced remains on the shelf until the results of the investigation are published, while a new celebrity series has now been filmed with food critic Grace Dent as a new co-host.
