An average of over 27 million viewers in Germany tune in to see their side defeated by England at Euro 2020.

An average of more than 27 million people in Germany watched their side eliminated by England at Euro 2020 yesterday, according to overnight ratings figures.

The game - won by the Three Lions 2-0 at Wembley - was broadcast by ARD between 5.59pm and 8pm, achieving an average of 27.36m (76.5%) and an impressive 84.7% share among adults aged 18 to 49.

The broadcaster also reported a record 4.66m streams of its coverage through its online and digital platforms, while a special news bulletin after the game also benefitted from the result, with 18.39m (55.4%) tuning in between 8pm and 8.15pm.

The figures compare to an average of 17.05m and a peak of 20.6m on BBC One in the UK, with an additional 6.5m streams through iPlayer and online.

As in the UK, German overnight figures do not take into account the sizeable audiences watching the games in pubs, bars and other non-household settings.

Elsewhere across Europe, France's shock exit to Switzerland on Monday night was seen by 16.34m (63.3%) on TF1, while RAI's coverage of Italy's victory over Austria on Saturday was seen by 13.28m (61.1%).
