Andrew Neil has said that he would be "delighted" to have Piers Morgan host a show on his new GB News channel but has not yet entered into any negotiations with him.
Morgan, 55, had been contracted to host ITV's Good Morning Britain until the end of this year but he quit the breakfast show yesterday amid a furore over his comments about Meghan Markle.
The former editor of The Mirror had been linked with GB News, which will offer a range of opinion-led and debate shows, long before he decided to part ways with GMB and now channel chairman Neil has confirmed his interest.
"Well, Piers would be a huge asset to GB News and we'll definitely look at that," he told BBC News.
"We haven't started any negotiations yet. We would certainly be delighted to talk to him if he's up for it."
He continued: "Could we find a role for Piers Morgan? Of course we could - any network worth its salt could find a role for a broadcaster of his calibre."
An exact launch date for GB News is not yet known but it is expected to start broadcasting within a matter of weeks.
