Australian version of The Office in development?
A new version of The Office is reportedly in development in Australia with a female actor in the David Brent role.

A new remake of The Office is reportedly in the works in Australia.

The much-loved comedy ran for just 14 episodes on the BBC in the early noughties, making a household name of Ricky Gervais, before crossing the pond for a US adaptation.

The American version, which starred Steve Carell, went on to become a huge success in its own right - running for nine seasons and over 200 episodes on NBC.

According to The Herald Sun, a new Aussie version is in development, with the part of the office boss likely to be played by a woman.

Kath & Kim icon Magda Szubanski is rumoured to be in line to play the boss, while others said to be involved in the project include actress Isla Fisher and stand-up comedian Jim Jefferies.

The Office has previously been remade in countries including France, Germany, India and Israel.
