Channel 4 has commissioned a UK version of the popular extreme survival show Alone, it has been announced.
In the programme - now in its ninth season in the US - 10 contestants will be dropped separately in the Northern Canadian wilderness armed with only basic survival tools.
The participants will be required to film their own experience, without any crew present, in a bid to last the longest and win a £100,000 prize.
Ian Dunkley, commissioning editor for factual entertainment at C4, said: "In one of the most inhospitable locations on earth, the cast will not only have to battle the elements and hostile wildlife, but also themselves, facing adversity with no camera crew, no producers and no catering trucks on standby.
"It will provide a fascinating insight into the human spirit and what it takes to survive against all the odds."
Alone has also been adapted for the Scandinavian and Australian markets and is available internationally via Netflix.
