Freddie Flintoff will reportedly be given "as much time as he needs" to decide whether to return as host of Top Gear.

The BBC will reportedly give Freddie Flintoff "as much time as he needs" to decide whether to return as a host of Top Gear.

The 45-year-old ex-cricketer was injured in a crash during filming for the show on December 13 and required surgery for broken ribs and facial injuries.

Although he escaped life-threatening injuries, a report in The Times has alleged that the much-loved presenter has been "psychologically traumatised" by the incident and is seriously considering whether to continue as a host.

Filming on the new series has been paused since the incident and will remain so for at least the next fortnight while an investigation into what happened takes place.

A show source told The Sun: "Freddie is under no pressure to make a decision. The door is very much open for him and will remain so. He can take as much time as he needs."

Flintoff has been co-host of the motoring show, which he presents alongside Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris, since 2019.
