Friday Night Dinner creator Robert Popper confirms that the sixth series was the last.

Friday Night Dinner creator Robert Popper has confirmed that the show has ended.

The news comes following the death of Paul Ritter - patriarch Martin Goodman - from a brain tumour last month at the age of just 54.

The sixth series finished a year ago with an episode that saw both of the brothers bring home girls - both called Lucy - before revealing that both Lucys were pregnant.

"I did think halfway through [the series] it would be great if they both brought girls round, and then I thought that one of them was pregnant and then 'oh, what happens if they're both pregnant?' So I thought that was good," Popper told LadBible.

"And then, yeah, I was thinking this will be the end [of the show] because I didn't want to do a series where they had kids and babies, and Jim would have seven dogs, also, like, the world's weirdest dog that you couldn't find seven of.

"So that was going to be the end, yeah."

A special programme marking the 10th anniversary of the show's debut, Friday Night Dinner - 10 Years And A Lovely Bit Of Squirrel airs on Channel 4 tonight.
