ITV gives the go-ahead to a new series of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? with Jeremy Clarkson.

ITV has given the go-ahead to a new series of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? with Jeremy Clarkson as host.

The long-running quiz show's future had been somewhat up in the air following comments Clarkson made about Meghan Markle in his newspaper column for The Sun in December 2022, where he said he was "dreaming of the day when she is made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowds chant, 'Shame!' and throw lumps of excrement at her".

ITV's director of television Kevin Lygo distanced the broadcaster from the remarks at the time, describing them as "awful" - casting doubt on whether Clarkson would continue to helm the format.

More than 18 months on from the scandal, ITV is now believed to have ordered a new run for broadcast in 2025, comprising a mix of regular episodes and celebrity specials.

According to Broadcast, the most recent series averaged an impressive 3.5 million viewers, while the last two series have been streamed 4.9 million times on ITVX to date.

Contestant applications for the new series are now open online until November.
