ITV orders a second series of police procedural The Tower, with filming due to begin later this summer.

ITV has confirmed that a second series of its Kate London adaptation The Tower will be filmed later this summer.

The three-episode first series aired last November and starred Gemma Whelan as anti-corruption officer Sarah Collins, who is tasked with trying to find out how a veteran officer and a young Libyan girl fell to their deaths from the top of a high-rise building.

The second series, to be known as The Tower II: Death Message, is based on the second novel in London's Post Mortem series and sees Collins investigate the case of a school girl who went missing on the day of Princess Diana's funeral in 1997.

As well as Whelan, other returning cast members include Tahirah Sharif as Lizzie Adama, Emmett J Scanlan as DI Kieran Shaw and Jimmy Akingbola as DC Steve Bradshaw.

"It's a real thrill to be recommissioning The Tower with an excellent cast and script from Patrick Harbinson and the team at Mammoth Screen," said ITV drama head Polly Hill.

"The characters, brilliantly created by novelist Kate London, certainly resonated with our audience who are keen to learn what happens next."

The second series, which will run to four episodes, is likely to air on ITV and ITVX in early 2023.
