Joe Locke discusses Heartstopper's change of direction in its upcoming third season.

Heartstopper's Joe Locke has confirmed that the show will be "growing up" in its third season.

The LGBT coming-of-age series is centred on the relationship between Locke's Charlie Spring and classmate Nick Nelson, played by Kit Connor.

One of the show's few criticisms to date has been the PG nature of the relationship between the two teens, but in the next season the pair look set to take things to the next level.

"The show is growing up," Locke told Variety. "The second half of the season is about sex."

He added: "[It was] almost like being in season one again with the first-ever kissing scene. Me and Kit are so comfortable with each other, but it's still a vulnerable thing to do."

Heartstopper season three premieres on Netflix on October 3.
