Bob Newhart, the iconic comedian and actor, has died at the age of 94.
The star was known for his roles in scores of productions stretching back to the 1950s, from films such as Elf and Horrible Bosses to TV shows including The Bob Newhart Show and The Big Bang Theory.
The ending to his sitcom Newhart in the 1980s is widely regarded as one of the greatest show finales ever - depicting him waking up in bed in character with his wife from The Bob Newhart Show, which had ended 12 years prior, implying that the entire eight-year run of Newhart was a dream sequence.
According to his long-time representative Jerry Digney, Newhart passed away at his Los Angeles home on Thursday morning following a series of short illnesses, describing his death as the "end of an era" for comedy.
Newhart's wife of 60 years, Ginnie, died last year and they are survived by their four children and 10 grandchildren.
