The pilot script for the sequel series to Life On Mars and Ashes To Ashes has been completed, it has emerged.
Show co-creator Matthew Graham first teased details of the new series, which would tie together both predecessors, during the first coronavirus lockdown in 2020.
Since then, Phil Glenister and John Simm have both indicated that they would be keen to reprise their roles as Gene Hunt and Sam Tyler respectively for the saga-ending sequel, which would be called Lazarus.
Taking to Twitter earlier this week, Graham revealed: "So [co-creator] Ashley Pharoah and I have completed the pilot script for Lazarus. It contains the words – Hanging, Boogie, Creme Fraiche."
The BBC has yet to announce a formal commission for Lazarus, suggesting that it would not be broadcast until 2023 at the earliest should it get the go-ahead.
