MTV has reportedly decided not to proceed with the new celebrity series of Ex On The Beach due to the production delays caused by COVID.
The show had been on course to film in Colombia in January and February, with stars such as Jermaine Pennant and Bianca Gascoigne having signed up to appear, but it was postponed by several months when the UK entered a post-Christmas lockdown.
Over the weekend it was reported that producers were on the hunt for an alternative to Colombia after the government placed only a few countries on its new 'green light' list of approved travel destinations, but now The Sun says that the show has been abandoned altogether.
"Bosses were really optimistic Ex On The Beach would be able to go ahead as the world began unlocking," a source told the newspaper.
"They secured a luxury villa for the new series on a breathtaking island off the coast of Colombia in a bid to lure Brits pining for a tropical holiday. But, like with last year's Love Island, there was no back-up location organised.
"After some frantic attempts to get everyone out to South America, they accepted it just wasn't meant to be.
"Execs spent last week breaking it to cast and crew that the series is off for the foreseeable future."
Fellow MTV series Geordie Shore was also due to be filmed in South America but is now thought to be taking place in Newcastle instead.
