GB News host Nigel Farage scoops the 'Best News Presenter' award at the annual TRIC Awards.

GB News host Nigel Farage has been named 'Best News Presenter' at this year's TRIC Awards.

The former Brexit Party leader, who hosts a weeknightly show on the channel, beat Piers Morgan, Susanna Reid and his GB News colleagues Eamonn Holmes and Stephen Dixon to the top award, which was voted for entirely by the public for the first time this year.

News of his victory did not go down well with industry figures gathered at Grosvenor House in central London, with one heckler shouting "scum" as he took to the stage.

"Those of you shouting, think about this," he said. "There is a large gap in the broadcast market.

"You've all become too much the same. And that is where GB News comes in. What we're doing is creating a new, fresh brand in British broadcasting. When we overcome the awareness problem, we're going to be a major force."

Farage went on to take aim at TV ratings firm BARB, which is co-owned by the major broadcasters and has a sample size of just 5,300 households across the whole UK.

"The way we measure what we're watching is completely out of touch," he added. "BARB is broken and we need reform of this system. It's out of date, it's out of touch, and I feel very sorry for all of you!"

Former President - and close friend of Farage - Donald Trump was quick to offer his congratulations, writing on social media: "Congratulations to Nigel. He truly is incredible with what he does and says. Everybody listens - the respect is long and deep."

GB News also pulled off a shock win in the 'Multichannel News Programme' category, with the channel's breakfast programme taking the gong ahead of Good Morning Britain and Channel 4 News.
