Helen McCrory, star of Peaky Blinders and the Harry Potter movies, has died of cancer at the age of 52.
The actress's husband Damian Lewis announced on social media that she had "died peacefully at home" following "an heroic battle with cancer".
News of McCrory's illness was not widely known until the announcement of her death.
Lewis, who married McCrory in 2007, wrote: "I'm heartbroken to announce that after an heroic battle with cancer, the beautiful and mighty woman that is Helen McCrory has died peacefully at home, surrounded by a wave of love from family and friends.
"She died as she lived. Fearlessly. God we love her and know how lucky we are to have had her in our lives. She blazed so brightly. Go now, Little One, into the air, and thank you."
In Peaky Blinders, McCrory played Polly Gray, the treasurer of the Peaky Blinders and aunt to Cillian Murphy's Tommy Shelby.
Filming of the show's sixth and final series has been underway since January, although it is unclear to what extent McCrory had been able to take part.
McCrory is survived by Lewis, their daughter Manon, 14, and son Gulliver, 13.
