A new talent show is reportedly in the works, along the lines of Popstars, which will aim to find the UK's next big boyband.

A new TV show along the lines of Popstars is reportedly in development that will aim to find the UK's next big boyband.

The first series of Popstars aired on ITV in 2001, finding members of the pop band Hear'Say in a traditional documentary style.

The second edition, Popstars: The Rivals, sought both a boy band and a girl band and introduced weekly live shows, which are now a staple of the music talent format.

According to The Sun, the new show - which is not thought to be officially linked to Popstars - will revert to the original format and is being developed by a trio of former ITV executives.

A casting call has gone out looking for boys aged 18 to 23 who want to join "a brand new five-piece boy band".

"If you can dance, sing and have a big personality to match then we want to hear from you," it says, adding: "Substantial travel will be involved and successful applicants will be residing outside of the UK from January to July 2024."

The new show, which dates suggest would air in autumn 2024, is not yet said to have a broadcaster attached.
