Netflix reveals that production has begun on the second season of Heartstopper, in addition to announcing four new cast members.

Netflix has revealed that production has started on the second season of its acclaimed LGBT drama Heartstopper.

The breakout hit - a coming-of-age drama starring Joe Locke and Kit Connor - was handed both a second and third season by the streaming service following the success of its worldwide debut in April.

A short video posted on social media today showed a montage of all of the cast back on set, each saying "hi" to the camera before sitting down for a table read of an episode.

In addition to the production announcement, four new cast members have also been revealed for the new season - including Jack Barton as David, the hitherto-unseen biphobic older brother of Connor's Nick.

Nima Taleghani will play Mr Farouk - a potential love interest for fellow teacher Mr Ajayi, Bradley Riches will play student James McEwan and newcomer Leila Khan will play another student, Sahar Zahid.

The new season is expected to be released at some point in 2023.
