Netflix is reportedly in early discussions about a prequel spinoff series of The Crown.
The hit show, which dramatises the events of The Queen's life from her childhood through to the early 2000s, will conclude with its sixth season, which is currently being filmed.
According to Deadline, Netflix is keen to keep the spirit of the show going beyond the current iteration and has started talks with production company Left Bank Pictures about possibilities for a spinoff.
The most likely subject of the spinoff would be The Queen's great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria, who reigned between 1837 and 1901 and oversaw a period of huge industrial change and development in Britain and the wider British Empire.
The publication says that the show could alternatively cover the monarchy pre-WWII, during which time George V reigned until 1936 - an infamous 'year of three Kings', which saw Edward VIII succeed his father then abdicate, forcing his younger brother George VI - the Queen's father - to step up.
Prequel plans are said to be at extremely primitive at the moment, and the show "is not yet in development nor near greenlight stage".
The Crown will return to Netflix for its fifth season this November, with the final installment following next year.
