ITV confirms that Big Brother housemate Kerry Riches has been given a warning for her use of the word "gay".

ITV has confirmed that Big Brother housemate Kerry Riches has been issued with a warning over her use of the word "gay".

The 40-year-old NHS worker - the oldest contestant remaining in the house - was overheard on the live feed on Sunday night using the word inappropriately.

At the time the housemates were taking part in the outdoors-themed shopping task, although Kerry was one of four housemates to win a 'VIP' pass and was allowed to sleep inside.

While she was out of the room, fellow housemates Olivia and Jenkin decided to prank her by hiding her mattress and then claimed that it had been confiscated by Big Brother.

Getting visibly annoyed, she geared up to complain in the diary room before remarking: "Well, this is gay."

An ITV spokesperson said today: "Kerry was brought to the diary room to discuss her inappropriate use of language.

"Big Brother reminded Kerry of her respect and inclusion training prior to entering the House and the consequences of any further use of offensive language.

"Kerry understood and apologised for any offence caused."

Big Brother continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
