Recap: Big Brother Australia episode four - Shot Fired

A recap of Big Brother Australia episode four, climaxing with yet another housemate waving goodbye to the competition.

Spoiler warning: This article contains details about Big Brother Australia which some readers may wish to avoid.

As day eight began in the Big Brother house, Sophie woke up to the realisation that she was starting to develop feelings for Chad, telling BB: "It's annoying because I'm not here to get with boys and fraternise with the enemy."

For their next task, BB introduced the group to his 'Ginger Dread House', where each housemate had to confront their worst fears in order to win a fondue party.

Sarah, who has a "severe anxiety" over knees, was forced to moisturise four hairy knees, Angela had to pet a poodle, Casey had to grate cheese and Daniel was made to eat an ice cream in a room full of pigeons.

Later, BB played matchmaker for Sophie, asking Chad how he felt about her. "She's opposite to me," he said. "She's an energiser bunny, which I like, because it's the opposite to me. She makes me feel happy."

The move paid off as that night, Sophie climbed into Chad's bed and they shared their first kiss.

Day nine saw gameplay ramp up exponentially as two rival factions emerged. Talia and Daniel began plotting to get rid of Kieran, unaware that he had overheard their discussion. In response, he decided to tell them that Marissa and Angela were plotting against the pair in an effort to take the target off his own back.

Daniel then announced to the house that he was not afraid of anyone, telling them: "Who wants a piece of this? You only get one shot because I'm coming for you."

Meanwhile, Talia confronted Angela and said that Marissa was the one dividing the house, warning her: "If Dan or I get thrown up it's going to be hell."

The nominations challenge was a test of endurance which required the housemates to gradually work their way up a swinging pole with increasingly smaller footholds.

It eventually came down to a two-horse race between Angela and Sophie, and with Sophie tiring, she attempted to agree a deal with Angela to keep herself, Chad, Daniel and Talia safe.

Angela agreed and Sophie dropped leaving an elated Angela as the winner. "Thank you Jesus!" she said in the diary room. "Big Brother, I told you I would win. I went in there like a champion and I came out a champion. It was very, very important for me to win because there is already an established monarchy."

She then named Daniel, Talia and Casey as the next nominees, reasoning: "Dan has been too comfortable, he's very cocky. He did say you've only got one shot - honey, I'm taking the shot tonight. Talia threatened me, I don't do threats. Not many people will vote for Casey. I feel as though Dan and Talia are controlling the house, it's too early on to be King and Queen."

After the nominees were announced, it quickly became apparent that the vote would come down to a choice between Daniel and Talia, with the former confessing: "Not confident Big Brother. I know Casey's safe, flip a coin between me and Talia. The boys might get me just because they get one crack at it."

An explosive eviction room discussion did not work out well for Talia, who admitted that she disliked multiple housemates. That earned her 11 votes, with Casey picking up four and Daniel just one vote - ironically from a tearful Talia.

Refusing a goodbye hug from Angela, Talia insisted: "I'm going to go home loyal, I'm going to go home not hurting anyone. I've been 100% me."

The last word went to Angela. "I've dethroned the Queen," she declared. "I came, I saw, I conquered."

Big Brother Australia continues Monday night on Seven.
