Charlie de Melo has hinted that his character Imran will become even "less palatable" before he departs Coronation Street.
Earlier this year De Melo announced that he had decided to leave the cobbles after four-and-a-half years and his exit is expected to play out on screen in the coming months.
Imran is currently involved in a custody wrangle with Abi (Sally Carman) over their baby son Alfie and has just got married to Toyah (Georgia Taylor), but speaking at last night's BAFTA TV Awards, De Melo revealed that Imran will not get the happy ending he craves.
"Whatever the opposite of a redemption arc is, that's something that my guy's going through now," he told the Radio Times.
"Imran's going from the sort of holier-than-thou white knight who's always a defender of the weak, and you see the cracks in the armour start to form and you see a slightly less palatable version of him.
"It's in the next few weeks, that months' worth of build-up... things that were seeded last September are blooming now. That's all coming to a head in the next few weeks, and so that's what I'm excited about."
Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
