Coronation Street producer Iain MacLeod has given extensive teasers about what's to come on the soap in early 2022 - and after a traumatic 2021 for Abi (Sally Carman), things are unlikely to ease up any time soon.
Having really struggled with the murder of her son Seb, Abi went down a dark path - inadvertently causing the death of Sam's mother Natasha (Rachel Leskovac).
It was also revealed that she had a drunken one-night stand with Imran (Charlie de Melo) before her wedding to Kevin (Michael Le Vell) - a secret they have so far managed to keep from Kev and Imran's girlfriend Toyah (Georgia Taylor).
"Abi is always in a pickle, and over the course of 2022 she will find herself in the Branston of all pickles as she fears she's pregnant after her one-night stand with Imran," MacLeod told reporters.
"It's another challenging year ahead for the character in and she risks losing Kevin and Jack as she's pitched into a protracted David-and-Goliath legal battle to try and keep hold of her life.
"As for the impact on Imran's relationship with Toyah, the bounds of her forgiveness will be tested to the max. Imran is forced to look in a mirror and consider himself and the man who he is – he could go to the dark side.
"It's a big buried bomb just waiting for people to end up in the blast radius. It won't go off for months but the way it happens is very surprising. It's big and shocking and it's the last thing you'd imagine to happen. It turns into a gobsmacking cataclysm.
"It's intimate but the shock will make people fall off their chairs. It's no secret that Sally is a fantastic actor, so it's exciting to keep her and draw in Mike, Georgie, Charlie, then smack them in the middle of something colossal."
Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
