Coronation Street producer Iain MacLeod has given extensive teasers about what's to come on the soap in early 2022 - and Amy (Elle Mulvaney) is set to raise eyebrows with her new choice of boyfriend.
Last month saw the return of bad boy Jacob (Jack James Ryan) to the street, months after he got caught up in the drugs storyline involving Simon (Alex Bain), Leanne (Jane Danson) and Harvey (Will Mellor).
Speaking to reporters, MacLeod revealed that Amy will soon admit that she has started seeing Jacob to her shocked parents Tracy (Kate Ford) and Steve (Simon Gregson).
"I'm thrilled Jacob is back," he said. "What appealed was Jack is a fantastic actor, very Coronation Street, he has funny bones and authentic comedy. It works with him, I believe him 100%.
"We will pair him up with someone historically well-behaved. She is quite sensible, given her family dynamic, and that's Amy.
"How would Tracy and Steve react to their daughter Amy being in a relationship with possibly the most unsuitable boyfriend they could think of?
"We discover about how he arrived in the drug gang and it will reframe views of him. He wants to redeem himself, make amends with Simon and Leanne and put his drug-dealing past behind him. Jacob was groomed – he did do some heinous things but he is mature enough to know he has to put things right.
"It's Meet the Parents done proper Corrie style, it's really rich and funny as Steve and Tracy try to put Amy off Jacob, then have to bite the bullet and try and get along with this lad."
Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
