Coronation Street's Sally Dynevor previews upcoming episodes

Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor reveals that she hopes Geoff's lies will start to "unravel very soon", with her character playing a pivotal role in eventually exonerating Yasmeen.

Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor has said that she hopes Geoff's lies will start to "unravel very soon" as the show's slow-burning domestic abuse storyline inches towards a climax.

After more than a year of mental torture at the hands of Geoff (Ian Bartholomew) and fearing for her life, Yasmeen (Shelley King) stabbed her husband with a broken bottle in shocking scenes broadcast last month.

Geoff has since recovered, while Yasmeen is in prison awaiting a trial as her granddaughter Alya (Sair Khan) attempts to gather evidence against Geoff.

Sally (Dynevor), who is married to Geoff's son Tim, has started to question Geoff's account of events and next week orders him to move out of their house.

"I think it [started] when Alya came into the hospital," Dynevor told This Morning. "Sally could hear Alya saying things like, 'You bullied my gran for years', and then the detective was asking Geoff all these questions about when he'd done this before previously.

"I think all these little things are making Sally realise that actually all is not what it seems. The thing about Geoff is he's this really happy-go-lucky man who everybody loves, so at first it's hard to believe that he's doing this, but as the story unfolds it gets very, very good.

"At first she says, 'I really can't help you Alya because I don't want to go against Tim, [Geoff] is my father-in-law.' But I think the fact that she's finding out all these little things that are going on, but also that Sally's been imprisoned herself for something that she didn't do, there's no way she's going to let Yasmeen spend years behind bars. It's all going to unravel very soon hopefully."

Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
