Shona McGarty backs the idea of Whitney and Zack getting together as an official couple in EastEnders.

EastEnders star Shona McGarty has given her backing to the idea of her character Whitney forming a proper relationship with Zack (James Farrar).

In recent weeks the pair have become friends with benefits, and in scenes being broadcast this week, Whitney learns the shock news that she is pregnant.

As Whitney struggles to break the news to Zack, she decides that she wants to keep the baby regardless of his reaction - but McGarty believes that there is potential for them to make a go of things.

"The only thing I'm a bit disappointed about is our hashtag name which I've been trying to figure out and would either be Wack or Zitney," she added.

"Wack's alright, but in slang, whack means rubbish, doesn't it? Also, Zitney sounds like something you'd find on that pimple popper website. But I do think Whit and Zack would be a good match."

Discussing the next few months, she continued: "Whitney's going to have to find a lot of inner strength over the next few weeks and months and protect herself and her baby. She needs to put herself and her baby first!"

EastEnders continues Mondays to Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One.
