Rita Simons reportedly joins the cast of Hollyoaks, six years on from her EastEnders exit as Roxy Mitchell.

Rita Simons has reportedly joined the cast of Hollyoaks, six years on from her exit from EastEnders as fan favourite Roxy Mitchell.

The character was controversially killed off from the BBC soap in a plot that saw her drown in a swimming pool with her sister, although Simons did make a cameo return to the role as part of a hallucinatory sequence in April.

According to The Sun, however, she has now jumped ship to Channel 4's Chester-based soap in a mystery role.

"Rita's new character will certainly ruffle feathers and is set to stir the pot," a source told the newspaper. "Hollyoaks fans can expect plenty of fireworks."

Channel 4 has yet to officially confirm Simons's arrival or details of her character.
