Hollyoaks star Jennifer Metcalfe - aka the iconic Mercedes McQueen - reportedly survives the upcoming cast cull.

Hollyoaks legend Jennifer Metcalfe is reportedly among those to have survived the soap's impending cast cull.

This September the show is reducing its episode count from five a week to three - and as a result, around 20 of the regular cast members will be departing.

Among those confirmed for the exit so far are Jamie Lomas (Warren), Ross Adams (Scott), Jamelia (Sharon), Stephanie Waring (Cindy) and Theo Graham (Hunter), while Alex Fletcher (Diane) and Chelsee Healey (Goldie) are also rumoured to be heading for the exit door.

According to The Sun, however, Metcalfe, who has played the iconic Mercedes McQueen since 2006, will not be among those leaving.

A source told the newspaper: "There has been a lot of speculation about who will be staying on the show and fans will be relieved that Jen is among them.

"She been such a big part of the soap for so long and there are still loads of storylines that could work for her.

"It's great news for Jen – she really loves being part of the show."

Confirmation of more cast members leaving and staying is expected in the coming weeks as filming of the September storyline approaches.
