Love Island's Jamie Jewitt opens up on mental health struggles

Former Love Island star Jamie Jewitt admits that he struggled with mental health issues following his time on the show.

Former Love Island star Jamie Jewitt has admitted that instant fame turned him into a "depressed person".

The 30-year-old appeared on the ITV2 dating show in 2017 and met girlfriend Camilla Thurlow, with whom he is now expecting his first child.

After Love Island ended, the model's career reached lucrative heights but he has now revealed that it sent his mental health on a slippery downward slope.

"The more successful I got in my job, the more money I got, and the more similar to this person in the picture I became and the less happy I became, the more I realised what I was doing," Jewitt told Head Talks.

"It's not going to make you happy. And it didn't make me happy. If anything, it disturbed me a little bit more each time I was doing it. And it's led me to this strange frame of mind and it did break me down a hell of a lot.

"I was in a world that I didn't want to be in. I wanted to just, just wake up and start new and it not be there and none of this be the way the world works now.

"I feel like that battle with me is what made me end up so cynical and helpless to my own sort of dislike, do you know what I mean? I became a very angry, grumpy and depressed person because of it."

Earlier this week it was reported that ITV is considering pre-recording Love Island in future in order to help contestants adjust to the consequences of overnight fame.
