BritBox announces Spitting Image election specials, one-off ITV broadcast

BritBox confirms two US election-themed episodes of Spitting Image, with one of them airing on ITV as a one-off broadcast.

BritBox has announced that two special US election-themed episodes of Spitting Image will be released on October 31.

The revival of the satirical sketch show has been an unadulterated success for the platform, driving a 10-fold increase in the number of new daily signups since its launch earlier this month.

Presidential candidates Donald Trump and Joe Biden have already featured in the current series but will take centre stage in the two new episodes, to be released just days before polling day in the US.

In addition the first of the two episodes will be screened on ITV as a one-off broadcast at 10pm on Saturday, October 31 with the hopes of enticing more viewers to sign up for BritBox.

Reemah Sakaan, chief creative at BritBox, said: "We've been excited about the timing of the US election for this series of Spitting Image for months... and it certainly doesn't seem to be letting us down in terms of material for satire, so we commissioned a bonus episode that we are excited to share with both ITV and BritBox audiences."

BritBox recently announced that the show has been renewed for a second series to air in autumn 2021.
