Channel 4 "exploring" Changing Rooms revival

Channel 4 confirms that it is looking at reviving cult BBC DIY show Changing Rooms after 16 years.

Channel 4 is looking at the idea of reviving DIY series Changing Rooms, a spokeswoman for the broadcaster has confirmed.

The show was a huge ratings hit for the BBC, airing across 17 series between 1996 and 2004 and making household names of presenters including Carol Smillie, "Handy" Andy Kane, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and Linda Barker.

According to The Sun, Channel 4 are actively considering bringing the show back following a surge in home improvement interest during the coronavirus lockdown and are hoping to tempt back some of its former stars.

"Changing Rooms was something of a phenomenon, spawning a long line of copycat makeover shows and it still retains a cult following," a source told the newspaper.

"C4 execs would like to tap back into some of that telly magic and exploit the current nostalgia for bygone shows."

A Channel 4 spokeswoman said: "We are exploring the idea, but nothing is confirmed."

The news appeared to come as a surprise to Smillie, who wrote on Twitter: "Well I'll be damned..seriously?"
