Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? host Jeremy Clarkson has revealed that a contestant has won the show's top prize for the first time in 14 years.
The iconic gameshow returns to ITV next month for a series of new episodes filmed during coronavirus lockdown, with no studio audience and the 'Ask The Audience' lifeline replaced by a second 'Phone A Friend' option.
The identity of the winning contestant has not been revealed, nor has it been announced when the episode in question will air, but Clarkson said that the winner was "probably the best the show has ever had".
"It felt like we whizzed through the questions," he recalled. "All of a sudden, confetti was falling from the ceiling and I was saying, 'You've just won one million pounds'.
"I wasn't sure I'd ever get to utter those immortal words. It was a little emotional - but, boy, did it feel good.
"I can't wait for viewers to see it. I was just in awe of this contestant - they're probably the best the show has ever had."
The news means that six people have now won the top prize on the UK version of the show in its 22-year history.
