Meghan Markle reveals she has suffered miscarriage

Meghan Markle reveals in a newspaper article that she suffered a miscarriage in July.

The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, has revealed that she suffered a miscarriage in July.

Markle already has one child, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, by Prince Harry and news that she had been expecting a second had been kept from the public until now.

The 39-year-old shared the news in a piece for The New York Times, recalling feeling "a sharp cramp" as she changed Archie's nappy one morning in the summer.

"I dropped to the floor with him in my arms, humming a lullaby to keep us both calm, the cheerful tune a stark contrast to my sense that something was not right," she wrote.

"I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second.

"Hours later, I lay in a hospital bed, holding my husband's hand. I felt the clamminess of his palm and kissed his knuckles, wet from both our tears. Staring at the cold white walls, my eyes glazed over. I tried to imagine how we'd heal."

At present it is unknown how far along Markle was with her pregnancy when she suffered the miscarriage, nor the extent to which the Royal Family were aware of the situation.
