National Television Awards postponed until September

This year's National Television Awards are delayed for a second time due to coronavirus and will now take place in September.

This year's National Television Awards have been postponed for a second time due to coronavirus.

The annual ceremony normally takes place every January and is broadcast live on ITV from the O2 Arena in London, although this year's event had been delayed until April as a result of the pandemic.

With England under a full-scale lockdown for the foreseeable, ITV has now taken the decision to delay the ceremony until Thursday, September 9 in the hopes that an audience may be able to be present by that point in time.

"When the organisers had to make a decision about whether or not the NTAs could go ahead, they knew immediately they didn't want to do anything remote," a source told The Sun.

"The NTAs are the glitziest night in the telly calendar so to have any less sparkle or glamour just wouldn't be right.

"Now, after the delays, the organisers are planning on putting on a huge show. There will be surprise guest performances and new categories, and more stars than ever present."

Kim Turberville, exec producer of the NTAs, said: "The awards will return to The O2 London in September to mark the UK's best, boldest and most beloved TV shows with a surprise-packed event.

"And we look forward to seeing you on the night for a celebration like no other."

David Walliams took over from Dermot O'Leary as host of the NTAs last year and is expected to return again this year.
