Sir Elton John has been called up as a defence witness in the trial of Kevin Spacey for sexual offences.
The Hollywood actor, 63, is two weeks into a trial at Southwark Crown Court, where he stands accused of 12 counts of sexual offences against four different men over a period stretching from 2001 to 2013.
Late last week Spacey took to the stand to defend himself against the charges, describing the prosecution case as "weak" and suggesting that the accusers may have been motivated by "money".
A number of witnesses for the defence have now started giving evidence, starting on Monday with Elton's husband David Furnish, followed by the veteran musician himself.
The pair appeared in court via video link from Monaco to back up Spacey's assertion that he had only attended their annual gala bash in Windsor once, in 2001. One of the actor's accusers had claimed that he had been groped by Spacey while driving him to their event in either 2004 or 2005.
During his testimony last week, Spacey had mentioned Elton in an anecdote in which he described storing his car in the star's garage, while in another story he talked about gifting a ping pong table to Dame Judi Dench.
The trial continues.
