Three-part drama Anne Boleyn fails to muster viewer interest, according to early ratings figures.

Channel 5's three-part drama Anne Boleyn limped to its conclusion with just 449,000 viewers (3.2%) in the 9pm hour last night, according to early ratings figures.

The show stars black actress Jodie Turner-Smith as Henry VIII's doomed second wife in an alternative account of the final few months of her life.

On paper Anne Boleyn looked like a sure-fire hit as Channel 5 has a track record of ratings success with both royal-themed programming and original dramas, but last night's final episode suffered the indignity of being beaten by a repeat of Vera, which brought in 674,000 (4.7%) for ITV3 between 8pm and 10pm.

Ratings steadily declined across the three episodes, with 774,000 (5.2%) tuning in for the first episode on Tuesday and Wednesday night's second episode bringing in 507,000 (3%).

Thursday's most-watched programme of the day on any channel was ITV's 9pm episode of Coronation Street, which was seen by 4.20m (28.7%).
