The X-Files creator Chris Carter has revealed that the iconic show could return with a "diverse" new cast.
The sci-fi series was one of the biggest shows on TV in the 1990s and made stars out of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, who played paranormal FBI investigators Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.
The original nine-season run ended in 2001, but the pair have since returned for a 2008 feature film and two miniseries - broadcast in 2016 and 2018.
While there are no current plans for Mulder and Scully to return again, Carter has now spoken about a potential reboot being masterminded by Ryan Coogler, known for Black Panther and Creed.
"I just spoke to a young man, Ryan Coogler, who is going to remount The X-Files with a diverse cast," he told On the Coast With Gloria Macarenko. "So he's got his work cut out for him, because we covered so much territory."
Meanwhile, Fox has confirmed that a proposed animated comedy spinoff called The X-Files: Albuquerque will now not be going ahead, three years after it was first announced.
