The X-Files 'set for animated comedy spinoff'

FOX reportedly gives the go-ahead to development of an animated comedy spinoff of cult sci-fi drama The X-Files.

An animated comedy version of The X-Files is reportedly in the works at FOX.

The cult sci-fi series starred David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as a pair of FBI agents investigating paranormal phenomena and first ran between 1993 and 2002, with a brief revival following between 2016 and 2018.

According to Variety, the new project is called The X-Files: Albuquerque and will follow a bunch of misfit agents investigating cases deemed to be unworthy of Mulder and Scully's time.

The publication says that FOX has given the show a "script and presentation" commitment and has enlisted X-Files creator Chris Carter as executive producer.

After the last episode of the original series aired in 2018 Anderson insisted that she was "finished" with the show, and neither she nor Duchnovny is said to be involved in the new project.
