Jamie Oliver is to host a new cookery competition series for Channel 4 that will reward the winner with their own published cookbook.

Channel 4 has announced details of a new cookery competition to be hosted by Jamie Oliver.

In the show, which has the working title Cookbook Star, contestants will compete for a grand prize of having their own cookbook published.

Producers are casting the net wide for contestants and are accepting applications from home cooks, street food sellers and Instagram food influencers.

"I have been crafting cookbooks for over 20 years and I know the dedication, skill and intuition it takes to create recipes people want to buy and try at home," said Oliver, who is the best-selling non-fiction author in UK history.

"Breaking into publishing is incredibly difficult - an impossible dream for so many amazing cooks out there - so I am just so excited to get out there and discover incredible new talent, new perspectives and new approaches to cooking and food.

"We know the talent is out there and I'm thrilled to be able to help them fulfill their potential."

The seven-episode series will be filmed later this year.
