Dolores Avery, the mother of Making A Murderer's Steven Avery, has died at the age of 83.
The hit Netflix documentary series told the story of Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey, who were convicted of murdering a young woman in 2005 but have strongly protested their innocence.
According to TMZ, Dolores, who featured in the documentary alongside husband Allan, died on Thursday morning at a hospice following a battle with dementia.
In a statement to the website, Steven said: "Losing my parents before I got out has always been my worst nightmare. Now it has happened.
"I worry my Dad will not live to see me as a free man.
"Today I lost the person I most wanted to take care of and give a better life when I am freed. I cannot put in words the pain of losing my mom."
The 59-year-old is currently serving life in prison without the possibility of parole.
