The Wire and Lovecraft Country star Michael K Williams has died at the age of 54.
The actor's body was discovered in his Brooklyn apartment by a concerned relative, TMZ reported, with drug paraphernalia nearby - suggesting that he may have died of a drugs overdose.
Williams had been open about his drug addiction issues, which he had been battling with since the age of 19.
In a statement, broadcaster HBO said: "We are devastated to learn of the passing of Michael Kenneth Williams, a member of the HBO family for more than 20 years.
"While the world is aware of his immense talents as an artist, we knew Michael as a dear friend who was beloved by all who had the privilege to work with him.
"We send our deepest condolences to his family for this immeasurable loss."
For his role in Lovecraft Country, Williams is nominated for a supporting actor award at next week's Emmys.
