James Cartwright is to leave his role as Theo Silverton on Coronation Street later this year, it has emerged.
The actor joined the soap a year ago and has been the main antagonist in a storyline that has see him domestically abuse fiancé Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce).
The plot has a natural end point and now The Sun has confirmed that Cartwright will exit the cobbles later this year, although his exit has yet to be filmed – suggesting that he may not be one of the five possible characters who will be killed off next month.
A spokesperson told the newspaper: “James joined on a finite contract and was aware of his character’s story arc and how long he would be in the show.
“He still has scenes to film will be on screen until later this year.”
New episodes of Coronation Street are released weekdays at 7am on ITVX and also air at 8.30pm weekdays on ITV1.
